One tradition in Acadia National Park is for visitors to rise before the sun and make a pilgrimage by driving to the top of Cadillac Mountain for sunrise.Acadia National Park - Fall SunriseMan sitting on rock enjoying view from Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park, Maine. The view of the sunset colors from Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National ParkHikers on ascending Cadillac Mountain, Acadia National Park, MaineView from Cadillac Mountain, Acadia National Park, MaineAcadia National Park - Beehive Trail Hike

Sunrise Hike to Cadillac Mountain

Acadia National Park

Trip Highlights

  • Highest Peak in Acadia
  • Panoramic Sunrise Views
  • Views of Gulf of Maine
  • Top-shelf Gear & Guide
  • Snacks and Picnic Breakfast
  • Summit of Mount Dorr

Your guide will meet you in the Sieur de Monts parking area at an agreed upon time well before sunrise. Our hike begins via headlamp along Emery Path, a long rocky staircase, then ascends Dorr Mountain before ascending to Cadillac.  Hiking in the dark is peaceful and meditative. The only clues to the wild landscape that surrounds us are the distance sounds of waves crashing into rocks, and the breeze in the treetops. We’ll reach the summit of Cadillac Mountain (at 1,527 feet, the tallest mountain in Acadia National Park) and relax while your guide prepares a delicious picnic breakfast. As the sun rises over Acadia, the landscape will burst to life with dramatic views of the rocky coasts and vibrant deciduous forests of Acadia. These stunning views are the backdrop for our special breakfast, hot tea and coffee. After a leisurely breakfast and ample opportunity to take photos, we’ll take the Dorr North Ridge Trail and follow Jesup Path back down. There’s no rush, and we’ll take our time to soak up the magic of this amazing place as your guide points out distant landmarks, tells you about the local plants and animals, and regales you with the history of the area!
