General Managers & Founders
Co-founder, General Manager, Director of Sales
Steve, co-founder, worked as a natural resources specialist for federal and state governments before discovering his passion for leading people into wild places. After this revelation, he spent his working life as a wilderness counselor for at-risk youth in Utah and as an outdoor educator and hiking guide, before co-founding the Wildland Trekking Company. Steve is a personable and attentive owner and guide who is dedicated to seeing that his guests get as much out of their wilderness hiking experience as possible. Also an avid rock climber, he can usually be found scaling the cliffs of his usual haunts when not in the office or the field.
Co-founder, General Manager, Marketing Director
Scott, co-founder, grew up hiking and backpacking with his family in the Rocky Mountains of New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and Wyoming. He’s sure backcountry hiking fever is severely contagious and doesn’t have any known cure, because once afflicted with it, the constant desire to “get out” has plagued him his whole life. He has a B.A. degree in English and Professional Communication and worked in the ski industry, outdoor retail world and leadership and personal development domain before Wildland. In 2005, along with partners Steve and Brad, Scott co-founded Wildland Trekking with a mission to enrich guests’ lives and contribute to conservation.
Co-founder of Wildland Llamas, Llama Program Director
Beau teamed up with Steve, Brad and Scott in 2014 to begin offering llama-supported treks in Wyoming. His company is the largest breeder of pack llamas in North America, and he is a co-founder of Wildland Llamas, a sister company to Wildland Trekking. His family has been making a living off the lands of Utah, Idaho and Wyoming for over 100 years and he wanted to see these special places preserved for years to come. With a common goal of preservation by conservation he believes that together we can protect use on public lands, the heritage of the West, and the pack llama breed used for millenia by the Incas and others.
Mikaela R. | Domestic Operations Director
Mikaela grew up in the red rock country of Sedona, Arizona. Her family traveled often and the wild outdoors was something she was always drawn to. She often went hiking and camping with her father and valued the art of living off the land. She graduated with a Medical Sciences degree from Northern Arizona University and spent her time after school abroad working in the medical field in India. However, it was her dream to work in the outdoor industry. Mikaela became a professional cycling, hiking and backpacking guide for several years in various states and National Parks. Mikaela grew into management roles within the industry and with Wildand Trekking. She was the Sedona hiking program manager and then served as the Director of Partnerships before becoming the Director of Operations in January of 2021. She lives in Sedona, AZ with her 2 dogs and is an avid mountain biker.
Chris H. | International Operations Director
International Operations Director
Chris developed a love of backpacking and climbing in the Appalachian Mountains of his home state of Tennessee. After earning a B.A. in Recreation and Tourism Management from the University of Tennessee, he headed West looking for a change of scenery. His quest landed him in Flagstaff, Arizona where the Grand Canyon grabbed firm hold of him, and where he guided Grand Canyon hiking and backpacking trips professionally for more than 5 years. He also migrated north in the summer to lead trips in Yellowstone. Eventually the green mountains and laid back hospitality of his Southern roots drew him back home, where his extensive experience, professionalism, and knowledge of the Appalachians were put to work in the position of Great Smoky Mountains Program Director and Lead Guide. His long held affinity and experience with international travel and hiking led him to his current position as the Director of International Operations.
Larry A. | Assistant Domestic Operations Director
Assistant Operations Director
Larry fostered his love of the outdoors growing up on a farm in Western Pennsylvania and on family camping trips to PA’s old-growth forests. Larry’s career path began with leading trail crews. 3 years as a wilderness therapy field instructor preceded a move with his wife to Flagstaff where he began Grand Canyon guiding in 2010. Larry started working in the WTC warehouse 2011, and through hard work, dedication, wisdom beyond his years, and a natural ability to lead he worked his way up to Operations Director.
Shane R. | Operations Coordinator
Adventure Consultant, Guide & 24/7 Team
Shane comes from an Arizona family dating back to 1918. He spent his youth outside with his dad and grandfather hiking, camping and exploring Arizona and the western USA. While spending much of his youth in northern Arizona on and near the Navajo Nation, his educational focus became Native American Anthropology and Religious Studies at ASU. He ventured into the art world, with a small ownership stake in a gallery, owned a construction business, and spent years in the motorcycle industry. A chance of a lifetime opportunity resulted in him spending years traveling the world- visiting, hiking and backpacking in 35 countries. At that point, the light came on and he sought work in the outdoor industry. Shane especially enjoys discussing gear requirements and the challenges of Wildland Trekking’s Level 5 backpacking adventures, which is his hiking passion. “As an athlete, I like pushing personal limits, and assisting our challenge-seeking guests to find that their ultimate adventure is extremely rewarding!” When not building trips for our guests, Shane is a competing trail runner, road cyclist and triathlete, and is out paddle-boarding or kayaking Arizona’s waterways.
Ken P. | Staffing Manager
Ken’s passion for the outdoors was born at the age of 10 when he first visited his grandfather in Arizona; they went hunting together and it opened up a whole new world to him. Soon after that trip his family moved to Arizona, his father’s home state (the Parkers have lived in Arizona for 5 generations and a love for the Sonoran deserts is deeply ingrained). Ken’s love of the southwest wilderness continued to grow, and eventually he graduated from Arizona State University in 2009 with a BA in Psychology. He worked as a mental health professional for several years, and felt his greatest successes came when he and the patients participated in outdoor activities together. His dream is to one day combine his expertise in guiding (on hiking and backpacking trips), his love of the outdoors, and his passion for helping the mentally ill with a customized wilderness therapy program in Arizona.
Tyler L. | Staffing Systems Developer
Staffing Systems Developer
Tyler’s passion for the outdoors started as a kid from Ohio with family vacations to National Parks in the Rockies. While earning his B.A. in Computer Science from Ohio University he spent summer breaks working in National Parks building his ever-growing love for all things wilderness related. After graduation, he decided he wanted to be as close to the outdoors as possible and spent the next decade-plus working in various National Parks, Recreation Areas, and ski resorts throughout the American West enjoying all the great recreational activities that the natural landscape has to offer. He now resides in Northwest Montana just outside of Glacier National Park crushing spreadsheets and spending his free time picking his banjo and searching for the next mountain top, river, or high alpine lake to take his breath away.
Emily R. | Hiring Director
Emily grew up in Massachusetts yet climbed California’s 14,000ft Mt. Shasta in her early teenage years. The experience surrounding this was very impactful in her desire to be outdoors adventuring. She has been guiding backpacking, multi-sport adventures, and supporting youth-at-risk in wilderness settings since 2005. Emily has worked as a Medical Case Manager, Field Manager, Assistant Field Director, and Regional Director as well as guide. She earned a B.A. in Psychology from Prescott College with an emphasis in leadership and outdoor programming. She is also a Wilderness EMT. Emily loves the soul recharging power of the wilderness, community created when groups travel together, and the growth that comes from outdoor excursions. When not working you can find Emily running, road and mountain biking, backpacking or thru-hiking, cooking, skiing and playing with her dog Pepper.

Upon his return to the States, Jordan met his wife on a backpacking trip to the Grand Canyon. They share an adoration for the American West and would eventually call Arizona home. Jake has been in California now for 9 years and has hiked and backpacked all over the state. His most notable and favorite hike was the John Muir Trail, which he hiked in only 11 days. Jake oversees the Sierra Nevada program which includes Yosemite National Park, Sequoia-Kings Canyon National Parks, Lassen Volcanic National Park, the Eastern Sierras and the Lost Coast.

David graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 2012, with a degree in Kinesiology: Outdoor Education, and has been working in the outdoor industry ever since. He spent a few years after school as a whitewater guide in northern Maine during the summer, and a ski and snowboard instructor in Vermont before heading west for Colorado. Upon returning to his home in Colorado, Brett sought out to find the best working animal for packing in the Rocky mountains and after trying yaks, horses, mules and goats, he discovered that well bred Ccara llamas were the ultimate pack animals for the mountains. Brett now works for Wilderness Ridge Trail Llamas, where he enjoys training llamas and teaching people about them while getting as many people out on trail with these amazing camelids as possible. When he’s not working or guiding, Brett enjoys fly fishing, hanging out with his dog and playing guitar where he currently resides in Idaho Falls, ID.
James W. | Colorado Program Manager
Colorado Program Manager
Growing up an Illinois flatlander, James used his imagination to create wilderness in the woods of his backyard. During a college backpacking expedition, he was exposed to Utah’s vast desert and mountain ranges. Inspired by the wild landscape, he found his life passion of introducing people to the great outdoors. He gained his BA in Outdoor Recreation from Southern Illinois University, and went on to work as a youth counselor for multiple outdoor education and therapeutic programs. Returning to Southwest Utah in 2013, he feels most at home exploring the deep slot canyons, and climbing the sandstone big walls in Zion National Park. Russell R. | Assistant Colorado Program Manager
Assistant Colorado Program Manager
Russell loves exploring majestic landscapes and sharing their stories with others. He grew up backpacking in Oregon when “rain pants” meant bringing an extra pair of jeans and vividly remembers the first time he had to navigate without a trail. Since then, he earned a masters in geology while exploring and reading Shackleton and Abbey in his free time before working for the National Park Service at Grand Canyon and Denali where he fell in love with ancient rocks, glaciers, and immense, un-altered wilderness. A stint as a professional geologist caused him to re-think his route and he now lives in Colorado with his wife Cassi, guiding and teaching outdoor skills. Russell feels most at home exploring areas where there are no trails and few trip reports, but also loves trail running, packrafting, climbing mountains, and philosophical conversations. He looks forward to learning about your journeys in the world and in life.
