Paul D.

Paul is originally from the U.S., but is now a permanent resident who has called Japan home for over 20 years. He currently resides with his family in a 150-year-old farmhouse along the Shionomichi (Salt Road), and is deeply involved with his local community. In addition to being an official Salt Road guide, he is the vice chairman of the local Salt Road club, works to maintain the trail, and helps organize a trail running race on it each fall.

His passion for the Salt Road is matched only by his love of the Japanese Alps. Paul has summited all of Japan’s 100 Tallest Mountains (an average of 4 times each!) and competes in mountain running races whenever his family and schedule allow. During the summer he can be found leading hiking, fastpacking, and trail running tours on Japan’s epic ridgelines for adventure-loving travelers.

About Aubree Saulpaw

Raised in the beauty of Southern Utah with Zion National Park as her backyard, Aubree grew up playing in the desert, hiking red rock trails, and camping under the stars. The Mojave desert shaped her deep love for the outdoors. The area’s rich Indigenous history, particularly the Ancestral Puebloans and Southern Paiute tribes, sparked a fascination with culture, story, and the connection between people and place.

That early sense of curiosity led her to begin traveling internationally as soon as she graduated high school, seeking to understand the world through its landscapes and the lives of those who inhabit them. Her journey eventually led her into the travel industry as an aircraft dispatcher, creating the foundation of her understanding of global logistics and movement. But it was the opportunity to blend two great passions – cultural appreciation and the outdoors – that truly felt like the right fit.
