Description
This extraordinary day hike features the very best of Acadia National Park, and offers variations depending on the interests of each group! We summit two mountains, earning spectacular views of the gorgeous coastal landscapes that characterize Acadia, and finish with an ocean walk along dramatic sea cliffs. Our hike first takes us to the summit of Beehive, which is a short, very steep ascent using iron rungs and ladders to negotiate granite cliff bands. (If you have a paralyzing fear of heights, this hike is not a good choice.) After Beehive we drop down to a pond, then continue on to Gorham Mountain for more stunning views. Descending from Gorham, we follow the rocky, cliffy coastline along Ocean Path. We will visit Thunder Hole (a sea cliff restriction where waves can crash in and spew water high in the air like a geyser) and Sand Beach before finishing up with the beautiful ocean views from the Great Head as we conclude the day.
