Rafi A.

Rafi started backpacking early in remote wilderness areas in her home state of Idaho. A personal passion turned into a career when she began working in Outdoor Education in 2003. She earned a B.A. from Prescott College in Adventure-based Environmental Studies, and a Master’s a few years later in Experiential Education. For 20 years, she has been roaming the country and the world, saying yes to every outdoor adventure she encounters. Her favorite excursions are the ones that are long, arduous and remote. Rafi believes deeply in the power of wilderness to heal, inspire and connect. Rafi also founded a non-profit organization called Naretoi, that works with Maasai women and girls in Kenya. She spends 2-4 months a year in Kenya, and has climbed Mt. Kenya 9 times with a women’s cross-cultural expedition that she organizes annually. Rafi enjoys the challenges of the backcountry and finding new limits for her body and spirit, but she also loves to sit quietly next to a mountain creek with a steaming cup of tea and a piece of dark chocolate. Rafi is also an avid naturalist and birder!
