Is This Trip Right For me?
This trip features typical New England hiking with steep ascents over short distances with no switchbacks. Expect technical, broken terrain that will sometimes require you to use both hands going both up and down. Some peaks include significant scrambling over large boulders and some smooth rock slabs. Guests often need extra coaching and guidance to navigate these sections.

Today we will pick you up from your hotel in Burlington, Vermont and make our way to the first day’s hike. We will head to a local state park to hike to a spectacular view from the mountain summit’s fire tower. Our trail begins in beech and maple forest and winds its way to a rocky bench where we will stop to enjoy the mountain and valley views before continuing to the summit and climbing the fire tower above the treetops. After the fire tower, we’ll continue the loop, descending back to our starting point and stopping at Lake Elmore to swim (optional and if weather permits) and relax. On our way to Stowe, we will enjoy a brief stop at a wonderful, local brewery to sample some of the local beer before heading to Stowe to check into our charming hotel, and enjoy a relaxing evening and delicious dinner.

We start today with a delicious sit down breakfast at one of our favorite, local eateries. Then we’ll embark on a gorgeous drive into the high mountains of Vermont. Today’s hike is short on distance, but don’t let that fool – it is one of the most breathtaking hikes in the Green Mountains. We will enjoy over a mile of ridge hiking with panoramic views stretching from New Hampshire’s White Mountains to New York’s Adirondacks. Here above the tree line we will enjoy a tasty lunch prepared by your guide before turning back, and hiking the same ridge back to our trailhead.
After our hike we’ll return to Stowe, and enjoy some downtime this afternoon to explore Vermont’s most iconic mountain town. You can explore on your own, or join the guide for a trip around town before reconvening for an optional visit to a wonderful local cidery. We’ll finish the day with dinner at a hand-picked restaurant in Stowe.

From our viewpoints we will see the surrounding farmland and forest and across the lake to the scenic bluffs that drop down to the Willoughby lakeshore. After returning from the hike we will get some time to walk around and explore the iconic downtown of Stowe, VT, before we meet for another delicious Northeast dinner.

This was our second Wildland trekking trip. Glorious experience hiking places we would not otherwise have gone. Guides on both trips were excellent, caring, and efficient. Registration was easy, communication was easy and both trips were highly worth the money.

1 year agoGreatest trip ever!
Greatest trip ever! Chris was outstanding as our trip guide and Lisa, though ‘shadowing’ Chris, added another dimension to make our guidance excellent in every way: their combined knowledge, history and facts of the area showed a true love for what they are doing. While the hiking was more difficult than I expected (rated a “3” but should be a “4”) and the weather didn’t fully cooperate (do NOT forget your rain gear) the first day, our trip overall was excellent in every way. Good food, great accommodations and excellent company — this was not my first and it will not be my last trip with Wildland Trekking. Thank you for every detail.
