Is This Trip Right For me?

This trip has short, but strenuous days of hiking (up to 8 miles) with significant elevation gains and losses (up to 3,000 feet), which is why this trip is given a Level 3 difficulty rating. Rocky, wet and muddy trails are normal. Short mileage can feel much harder and longer on many of the area’s trails due to the elevation gain/loss and the extremely rugged terrain.

Trip Itinerary

Please Note: We always do everything in our power to follow the set itinerary, however occasionally trips are subject to itinerary changes based on a variety of circumstances, including but not limited to: lodging/campground availability, extreme weather, political or bureaucratic obstacles, earthquakes, fires, flooding and more. Normal terms and conditions apply to trips with itinerary changes.

Day 1

Drive Time: 3.5 hours

Accommodations: Lodge in Moskenes

Our adventure begins in the charming coastal town of Bodø, gateway to the Lofoten Islands. We’ll meet at Bodø Station at 3:30 pm, then take a short walk to the harbor to board the ferry for a scenic 3.5-hour crossing to Moskenes. As we sail across the Norwegian Sea, keep your eyes on the horizon—if the weather is clear, the dramatic peaks of Lofoten will rise from the ocean, offering a breathtaking welcome. During the journey, we’ll hold a trip orientation meeting, giving you a chance to get to know your guide and fellow travelers while soaking in the views. We’ll arrive around 8:00 pm, then transfer to our cozy accommodation for the night. Settle in, relax, and prepare for the days of exploration ahead.

Day 2

Hiking Mileage: 4.2 miles (6.8 km)

Elevation Gain/Loss: 1,640 feet (500 m)

Drive Time: 1 hour

Accommodations: Lodge in Moskenes

Today, our journey truly begins—with a blend of sea and land. After a hearty breakfast, we’ll board a boat for a 1-hour cruise through the Lofoten archipelago, weaving between dramatic peaks and remote islands to reach the trailhead for our first hike. Our first hike takes us along the rugged coastline, over a gentle mountain pass, and down to a secluded beach—a perfect spot to relax and enjoy a picnic lunch. After soaking in the views and the serenity, we’ll retrace our steps and catch the boat shuttle back to Reine. Next, we’ll take a short drive to the base of Reinebringen, Lofoten’s most iconic viewpoint. Though the hike is relatively short, the reward is immense: panoramic vistas of fjords, fishing villages, and jagged peaks that define the soul of these islands. After descending, we’ll return to our lodging for dinner and to unwind and reflect on the day’s adventures.

Day 3

Hiking Mileage: 8 miles (8 km)

Elevation Gain/Loss: 1,804 feet (550 m)

Drive Time: 1 hour

Accommodations: Lodge in Napp

Today’s hike takes us to an isolated beach and the summit of Ryten, with sweeping views over Kvalvika Beach—one of Lofoten’s most iconic landscapes. We’ll enjoy lunch either at the summit or down on the beach before returning to our vehicle. In the afternoon, we’ll drive 30 minutes to Napp and settle into our oceanfront cabins, perfect for relaxing or taking a brisk swim. In the evening, we’ll head to Leknes for dinner, then unwind with a sauna overlooking the fjord—a perfect end to a spectacular day.

Day 4

Hiking Mileage: 8 miles (8 km)

Elevation Gain/Loss: 3,051 feet (930 m)

Accommodations: Lodge in Napp

After breakfast, we’ll shuttle to the trailhead of Himmeltinden, one of Lofoten’s highest and most rewarding peaks. This is our most challenging hike, with 3,051 ft. of elevation gain and loss over 6 hours, but the views from the southern summit are absolutely spectacular. Be sure to bring your camera—the scenery is unforgettable, with sweeping vistas of mountains, sea, and sky. After the descent, we’ll return to our lodge for well-earned showers, followed by dinner in Leknes and a relaxing sauna overlooking the fjord.

Day 5

Hiking Mileage: 3.4 miles (5.5 km)

Elevation Gain/Loss: 1,476 feet (450 m)

Drive Time: 1 hour

Accommodations: Lodge in Napp

After breakfast, we’ll transfer 30 minutes to Slydalen, where today’s hike begins. The trail winds past a few remote farms before ascending Blåtinden, the “blue mountain.” From the summit, enjoy panoramic views—the fjord to the south and the open sea to the north. After the descent, we’ll drive 35 minutes back to Napp to relax at our oceanfront cabins.

Day 6

Hiking Mileage: 4.3 miles (7 km)

Elevation Gain/Loss: 2,297 feet (700 m)

Drive Time: 1 hour

Accommodations: Lodge in Kabelvåg

We’ll start the day with breakfast before driving 1 hour to the trailhead of Kleppstadheia, a scenic hike that begins at sea level and climbs to panoramic views of the surrounding fjords and peaks. At the summit, we’ll pause for a guide-prepared lunch where sea and mountains meet. After descending, a short transfer brings us to our new waterfront accommodations, where you can unwind in the spa or sauna with views of the fjord. Dinner is just a short walk away at a traditional Norwegian restaurant, one of our personal favorites.

Please note that tonight’s lodge provides shared bathroom facilities, common in this region.

Day 7

Hiking Mileage: 1.9 miles (3 km)

Elevation Gain/Loss: 1,739 feet (530 m)

Drive Time: 30 minutes

Boat Ride: 2 hours

Accommodations: Lodge in Kabelvåg

On our last full day in Loften, we’ll take a scenic 30-minute drive to the trailhead for our first hike: the iconic Festvågtind, one of Lofoten’s most celebrated peaks. Though relatively short, this hike is steep and invigorating, offering a rewarding challenge and stunning panoramic views of the surrounding islands and the vast Norwegian Sea. Weather permitting, we’ll enjoy a picnic lunch at the summit, soaking in the breathtaking scenery before descending back to the trailhead. From there, we’ll continue to the charming fishing village of Henningsvær, where we’ll wander its picturesque streets and browse its quaint local shops. To conclude this memorable day, we’ll savor a delicious Norwegian dinner and unwind with a relaxing evening.

Please note that tonight’s lodge provides shared bathroom facilities, common in this region.

Day 8

Travel Time: 3.5 hours

On our final morning, we’ll ease into the day with a relaxed breakfast before setting off for Moskenes. There, we’ll board the same ferry that welcomed us to the islands, now offering a reflective 3.5-hour voyage as the dramatic landscapes of Lofoten slowly recede into the horizon. Upon arrival on the mainland, our journey concludes at Bodø train station, with an expected arrival time of approximately 3:30 PM.

Incredibly Impressed

Magda and Erik were fantastic guides. I was so nervous to do a group trip and this trip allayed all of my fears. Having two guides was a treat since not all members of our group wanted to do the same hikes and having voice and choice was key to the sucess of this trip. I was also incredibly impressed with the professionalism and knowledge of the staff. I fell on the first day and Erk took great care of me, sent the rest of the group into town to not cut into their time, while he patched me up. He was thorough in his evaluation and Erik and Magda followed up regularly by checking in on me. It was so fun to see them gradullly show more of their personalities as the trip progressed. For such a remote area, having guides with local knowledge and language made the trip so much more special. Would travel with Wildlands again and would go anywhere with Magda and Erik leading the way.
