Description

Our Mystic Falls day hike is a great way to combine 2 of Yellowstone’s most renowned geyser basins with a less frequented backcountry gem. We will start by hiking through Old Faithful Geyser Basin, which hosts the largest concentration of geysers in the world. On this path, we will pass a couple of its most active geysers, Castle and Daisy, before crossing the street to reach Biscuit Basin. The boardwalks here will lead us across the Firehole River and over awe-inspiring hot springs. We will ogle at the otherworldly colors and textures of Sapphire Pool, Mustard Springs and others. Next, we’ll take a break from the crowds and set out on a section of the historic Continental Divide Trail (CDT). After a solid mile of lodgepoles and wildflowers along the CDT, we will reach the serene site of Mystic Falls. This 70-foot cascade and the Little Firehole River in which it flows are very photogenic. Once we have had a few minutes of rest, we’ll start our trek up the Fairy Creek trail where our solitude is likely to increase even more. This part of the trail is an awesome climb, and the higher we go the more the valley floor opens. We will enjoy a delicious picnic prepared by your guide while sitting before the breath-taking vistas of Biscuit Basin Lookout. After lunch, we will retrace our steps through Biscuit Basin and loop back through the Old Faithful area on a new trail. On our way back to the Visitor’s Center, we have the opportunity to see all new thermal features such as Morning Glory, Giant Geyser, and Old Faithful herself.

Please note: this hike is operated by Wildland Llamas, a separate company from Wildland Trekking, but with shared management and guide teams. Wildland Llamas is a licensed stock outfitter and guide company in Yellowstone National Park.

A brilliant experience!

A brilliant experience! Jared knows a lot about Yellowstone, adapted the tour to our needs and wishes and provided a delicious fresh meal. We have seen a lot of natural features. I enjoyed the most the explanations about how the volcano, the geysers, the hot spings, the forest and the animals interact.

Knowledgeable, Fun, and Prepared

Jared was a great guide. He was very knowledgeable, fun, and prepared. He was great with my young children and I feel like we learned a lot from him both from a hiking perspective and a park knowledge perspective. Would highly recommend him.

Wonderful Day

We spent a wonderful day with Adrianna exploring and learning about the geyser basins and hiking to beautiful Mystic Falls. She continually laid out our options, adjusted to both our needs and interests, & pointed out many things we would have missed on our own. The lunch she put together for us up in the rocks at the Falls was amazing for both the location & the quality. And she was just genuinely enjoyable to be with!
