We know after being in a group for a multi-day trek it is nice to unwind with some personal time and freedom to explore or just relax on your own. This package allows you to experience some of the iconic Porto Moniz sights and activities on your own schedule. Let us plan the hotel and transport to the incredible Porto Moniz.
Porto Moniz is world-renowned for the complex of natural pools of volcanic origin. The ocean water flows into the pools, constantly renewing the clear waters. Access to these pools is included in your package. With this add-on package, you are sure to enjoy these pools, the hotel amenities, and exploring what else Porto Moniz has to offer!

We require a minimum of 2 guests to confirm this trip. If a trip date is not confirmed yet, you can register and will be notified when the trip is officially confirmed. We recommend not making final travel arrangements until your trip meets the minimum number of guests and is confirmed.
In most cases, if a trip does not reach the minimum number of guests, you may choose to transfer to another trip date or another trip, be refunded your payments in full, or you may have the choice to pay a supplemental fee to run the trip with fewer guests. We make the final determination for these trips 65-60 days before the departure date.

Day 1
- Drive Time: 1 hour
Today’s itinerary is planned for you to explore the exquisite town of Porto Moniz at your leisure. After your private transfer from Funchal to your 4-star hotel in Porto Moniz, you will have the day to yourself! Porto Moniz features a natural complex of lava pools that you can visit and take a dip in. Porto Moniz is named after one of the first settlers to the area: Francisco Moniz O Velho who arrived in the last quarter of the 15th century. The two pool complexes Piscinas Naturais do Porto Moniz and Piscinas Naturais do Aquario are certainly worth checking out. Another popular attraction is the João Baptista Fort, which is a replica of the fort first built in 1730 to protect the local population from pirate attacks. Porto Moniz also offers an aquarium first opened in 2005. The Laurisilva of Madeira is a primarily laurel forest in the vicinity of Porto Moniz that boasts endemic plant and animal species such as the Madeiran long-toed pigeon.
Day 2
- Drive Time: 1 hour
Depending on your flight departure time, you may choose to enjoy a leisurely breakfast at your hotel (included), spend more time in the pools, or any other exploring you’d like to do in Porto Moniz. Once you are ready to say farewell to this beautiful town, your driver will transfer you back to Funchal for your departure from the Madeira Airport International Cristiano Ronaldo.

Travel To Porto Moniz
On the final morning of your Madeira Island Hiking Adventure (Day 8), your driver will transport you to your accommodations in Porto Moniz which we will book for you.
Check-out from the hotel is at 12:00 pm. Your driver will be ready at your requested time to transport you to the airport in Funchal in time for your departure flight.

This 4- star hotel is located in stunning Porto Moniz, on the north coast of the island. Surrounded by mountains and sea, this hotel’s setting will certainly leave a lasting impression. Porto Moniz boats natural swimming pools and is in close proximity to the impressive Laurissilva Forest. The hotel has 3 restaurants, 2 of which have ocean views, both indoor and outdoor pools, and a wellness center with jacuzzi, sauna, and Turkish bath.
