Frommer’s – April 2022
In April, 2022 Frommer’s published an article about “8 Great Hikes for Families—from Day Trips to Overnight Treks.” Featured as their first choice was Wildland’s Rocky Mountain National Park llama treks. Our Colorado Program Manager, James Wieman, helped provide information for the article. And we agree – a llama trek in Colorado is one of the best ways for families to hike in the Rockies! National Parks Conservation Association – 2021
In 2020 we teamed up with The National Parks Conservation Association to provide a NPCA trip to their members in the Desert Southwest. NPCA is a non-profit partner of the National Park Service with an advocacy and educational focus. They are a long-standing, extremely positive organization that makes a large conservation impact.
Condé Nast Traveler – August 2020
Condé Nast Traveler published a piece on hiking and visiting Yosemite National Park during the summer of 2020, when the COVID-19 crisis was gripping America. Yosemite implemented a reservation system that reduced the visitation by 50% from prior years. The article highlights a silver lining of the crisis, which is having solitude in Yosemite Valley in the summer. We accommodated the author on a guided day hike to Clouds Rest, one of Yosemite’s more prominent peaks.
LOS ANGELES Times – July, 2020
In July 2020, the Los Angeles Times contacted us for input on a story they were doing about hiking and walking tours during the COVID-19 pandemic. As detailed in the article, we explained how Wildland Trekking trips are uniquely suited to the COVID-19 times for many reasons: small group adventures and often backcountry-oriented trips away from crowds. The brand manager of the Vermont Cider Company (maker of Woodchuck Hard Cider and part of the Pabst Brewing Company) contacted us in the fall of 2016 to partner on an “Ultimate Outdoor Adventure” promotion. We worked with them to offer a backpacking trip at any of our destinations to the lucky winner.
MOUNTAIN DESIGNS – 2016 – 2017
In 2016 we began a partnership with Mountain Designs, an outstanding outdoor gear and apparel manufacturer and retailer in Australia. We partnered with them to offer annual expeditions to Nepal and Patagonia for Mountain Designs members. We also ordered the bulk of our logo’d apparel for our staff and guests from Mountain Designs.
CABELA’S – DECEMBER, 2016
Cabela’s contacted us in November 2016 to inquire about a holiday sweepstakes partnership. We like the idea, and so worked with Cabela’s to offer a Bechler River backpacking trip in Yellowstone National Park as a prize for their sweepstakes. The contest wrapped up in mid December, with a lucky person winning two free spots on one of our most popular backpacking trips.
NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC – 2016
In 2016 National Geographic published a piece on the “10 Best Backpacking Trips in U.S. Parks” as part of a celebration of the 100 year anniversary of the National Park Service. They used our offerings as a reference for this piece, and specifically mentioned our guided version of the Mount Sterling Loop trip in Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
MEN’S HEALTH – AUGUST, 2016
In May of 2016 we were contacted by Men’s Health Magazine for a story they were doing that featured guides in specific outdoor adventure activities ranging from kayaking to fly fishing to hiking and backpacking. They interviewed one of our veteran guides, Ron Bubb, for the story and included him as the featured guide in the hiking/backpacking section. There’s no online version, so you’ll have to visit one of our offices to see a framed copy.
MSN.COM – FALL, 2015
In early fall, 2015 msn.com published this online article in their Travel section. The article is about the 40 most romantic fall getaways – they list the Grand Canyon in Slide #33, but their editorial focus is primarily on Havasu Falls. They list us as the primary guide company for trips to Havasu Falls.

The New York Times published an article dedicated to one of our most popular destinations, Grand Canyon’s Havasupai Waterfalls, in early September, 2015. LONELY PLANET TRAVELLER MAGAZINE – JANUARY 2015
In November of 2014 we were contacted by Lonely Planet Traveller Magazine, an off-shoot of the popular Lonely Planet travel guides. They were doing an article on the best winter getaways and wanted to mention our Yellowstone Winter Wonderland Ski Tour. We were very excited to have our tour mentioned and helped by furnishing a photo and tour details. They didn’t publish an online version, however we have a framed copy up for display at our main headquarters in Flagstaff.
JETSET MAGAZINE – OCTOBER 2014
In May of 2014 we were contacted by the editor of Jetset Magazine. He was interested in taking a team of photographers, writers and editors into Yellowstone on an adventurous, intensely scenic backpacking trip. Most of our Yellowstone trips being full, we suggested an Elkart Park to Green River Lakes trip in the Wind River Range, south of Yellowstone and Jackson Hole. Their team of journalists had the adventure of their lives and the article was a success. Jetset has taken down the online article, but we have copies of the print article at our Arizona and Montana offices.

In December of 2013 we were contacted by Sunset Magazine for a piece they were planning for their March issue on America’s national parks. They wanted to interview one of our Colorado guides for professional input on Rocky Mountain National Park. We helped them and were quoted in the article. They didn’t produce an online version of the article, but we have a framed copy at our main office in Flagstaff.

In 2011 our Mule-assisted Classic Grand Canyon hiking tour was featured on the show “The Official Grand Canyon and Sedona” as the Best Backcountry Adventure in Arizona! Our tour was chosen based on the quality of our guest reviews, the reputation of our company, and the wide range of abilities and experience levels this trip is available to. In February of 2010 Backpacker Magazine contacted us asking for insider information on the best wildlife hikes in Yellowstone. They were interested particularly in specific wildlife – wolves, bear, moose, big horn sheep – and which hikes would provide the highest probability of seeing them. Our Rocky Mountain Field Coordinator, Steven Cundy, was featured in the article as the resident expert. They didn’t create an online version, so the only way to see the article is to visit one of our offices in either Missoula or Flagstaff, where we have framed copies up for display.
USA TODAY TRAVEL – 2010
In USA Today Travel Bernard McCoy, an associate professor of journalism at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a writer for USA Today, wrote an article about hiking the Grand Canyon. In the article he describes our company and lists us as a prime resource for hiking the Canyon. We were honored to be listed.
LONDON’S TRAVEL MAGAZINE – JULY 2008
London’s Sunday Times features a traveler-oriented publication called Travel. In 2008 we were contacted by Sally Howard, a freelance writer doing a piece for Travel, who wished to join one of our most exciting and strenuous treks in the Grand Canyon and write an article about it. In June of 2008 she joined our New Hance Loop Hike and published her article in Travel Magazine in the July edition. She raved about the experience and about Wildland Trekking, and we were of course thrilled to be featured!
LANCASTER ONLINE – OCTOBER 2008
Ron Callihan, a Wildland Trekking guest in the Grand Canyon in 2008, is a cancer survivor. At the time he was also a recent widower, his wife having also been afflicted with cancer. In this amazing article he describes how the goal of hiking the Grand Canyon helped him persevere in his battle with cancer. In July 2006 Kate Siber, a writer for the New York Times who was writing an article on dehydrated backpacking meals, contacted us to see if we would support her with the article. She wanted experts in the hiking and backpacking industry to sample several backpacking meals and give feedback for the article.
