Southern Yosemite Mountain Guides

The Yosemite and High Sierra Experts Since 1991

SYMG Southern Yosemite Mountain Guides LogoIn December, 2024 Wildland Trekking adopted Southern Yosemite Mountain Guides’ itineraries and programs, field staff, vendor relationships and, most importantly, their incredible 30-year legacy in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Since 1991, Southern Yosemite Mountain Guides (SYMG) has been providing exceptional backpacking, horse-supported hiking, and rock climbing tours and expeditions to Yosemite National Park and the High Sierra. One of only two companies guiding the entire John Muir Trail, and selected as one of Outside Magazine’s esteemed “Trip of the Year” award winners, SYMG has been a leader in the outdoor adventure industry for over 3 decades.

We are proud to combine forces with SYMG and continue their extraordinary traditions in the Sierra. We are continuing to offer SYMG’s extraordinary experiences, including a range of world-class trips on the iconic John Muir Trail. We invite you to read on, explore the classic trips SYMG is famous for and start planning your next adventure!

Please Note: Rock climbing and Half Dome day hikes coming soon!

FAQs About SYMG Acquisition

Since we started Wildland in 2005, SYMG has been one of the adventure companies we strove to learn from and emulate. We have always admired the nature of trips SYMG runs, the sense of adventure they exude, and the tight-knit community the team has created with their staff. We look forward to carrying the SYMG torch forward and continuing to honor their legendary history in Yosemite and the Sierras!

FAQs ABout SYMG-Wildland Merger

I have a 2025 Reservation with SYMG – What should I do?

We have great news for those guests who are booked on a 2025 SYMG trip! All you have to do is contact SYMG and give them permission to transition your registration over to Wildland. You will complete our registration profile, your payment will be transferred and you’ll be all set.

will the trips change?

We don’t plan to make significant changes to most of SYMG’s itineraries. We are shortening the Grand Yosemite Traverse and ending in Yosemite Valley instead of Tuolumne Meadows, so that guests have the opportunity to experience the iconic highlights of Yosemite Valley (waterfalls, views, domes) on this amazing trip. We are also adding services on some trips, like front-end or back-end transportation. In terms of meals, gear and logistics, you can expect the same great level of quality you’ve come to expect from SYMG!

Will the Terms and Conditions Be Different?

Yes, all trips that were previously operated by SYMG will now be operated by Wildland, and all Wildland terms and conditions will apply. You can read about our terms and conditions here.

Will the Guides be The Same?

Our intention is to hire all of SYMG’s guides. However, your guide(s) may be different than who you’ve had in the past, as is always a possibility when doing repeat trips with a company.

Will Wildland Work with Organizations?

Absolutely! A priority of ours is to continue the legacy of running high quality B2B, educational and retreat style trips for and with other organizations. Wildland has a proud 20 year history of operating trips for many companies, including REI Adventures, BACKPACKER Magazine, National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) and more. Contact us to get the ball rolling.

Will Wildland Offer Rock Climbing?

Will Wildland Offer Half Dome Day Hikes?
